DEVELOPMENT - PRODUCTION - IMPLEMENTATION
AMEC (Aerobombas de MECate) Amec@alianza.com.ni
is an independent Nicaraguan enterprise that started in 1990. With Dutch technical support and assistance from Cesade it developed and now produces all the larger Rope pump models. With assistance of the PRACTICA foundation, AMEC also developed other low-cost technologies like: water storage, low pressure drip irrigation, manual well drilling in hard clay and rock layers and a small wind generator for battery charging.

CESADE (Centro de EStudio y Accion para el DEsarrollo) cesade@ibw.com.ni
is a Central American NGO promoting low cost technologies like well drilling, Rope pumps and low cost irrigation in their rural development projects in the dry tropics. Technical assistance in this field (oa Henk Holtslag) is financed by the Dutch organization ICCO - PSO. Projects are o.a. funded by NOVIB (Oxfam).

TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER - TECHNICAL INFORMATION
PRACTICA Foundation www.practicafoundation.nl and info@practicafoundation.nl
PRACTICA consist of specialists with experience in Asia, Africa and Latin America. PRACTICA works on the dissemination and development of water and energy technologies including options that are affordable for poor rural families. Essential in the dissemination is the involvement of the local private sector. PRACTICA associate Henk Holtslag (Ropepumps@wxs.nl) is specialized in Rope pump technologies with 13 years of experience in development, production, and hands on training in 10 different countries.

Other people involved in Rope pumps are:
J. de Jongh, info@arrakis.nl, specialist in Wind energy(courses); director of RED*
S.Batchelor, Ropep@gamos.demon.co, specialist in local capacity building; head of GAMOS**
G.J.Bom, Solartec@worldonline.nl, technical innovator; head of SOLARTEC***
P. Smulders, p.t.smulders@phys.tue.nl, staff member of the former CWD****; Ex lecturer at Eindhoven University of Technology
M. Gnecco, mjgnecco@hotmail.com, specialist in small hydro and wind energy, Columbia

EVALUATION OF ROPE PUMPS
The hand Rope pump was evaluated in 1995 by IRC ( International Reference Centre for water and sanitation) www.irc.nl
The wind Rope pump was evaluated in 1998 by RED on request of and financed by the Netherlands Embassy in Nicaragua. The evaluation report (English and Spanish version), includes much historical and technical data. See www.arrakis.nl
A 3-page summary on the wind Rope pump for irrigation is published by GAMOS** www.gamos.demon.co.uk

HORSE and MOTOR ROPE PUMP
The horse Rope pump is based on a design of SOLARTEC*** solartec@worldonline.nl who is developing a thermal solar pump and energy saving technology for gasoline and diesel engines for irrigation and domestic water supply.

* RED (Renewable Energy Development, the name RED now changed to Arrakis).
** GAMOS is a small but influential company in renewable energy and participant in the wind pump evaluation.
*** SOLARTEC is a small consultancy company oa working on thermal solar energy.
**** CWD (Consultancy Wind energy Developing countries) an institute financed by Dutch development aid. Between 1970 and 1990 CWD worked on investigations, publications and development of wind pumps for irrigation to promote and stimulate the use of wind energy in developing countries.
